In snowboarding, particularly when it comes to resort riding, there’s a thing that happens when the chairlift is positioned adjacent to the fall line of the snowboard park. Call it gaping. Call it cheering. Call it chortling, chastising, or championing.
Like fans howling from the bleachers in a football stadium, chairlift riders too have a front row seat to all the good, the bad, and the ugly that goes down on the pitch (or in this case, the snowboard park).
Sometimes, however, as is the case with photographer Justin Hostynek’s beautiful capture of snowboarder Alessandro Benussi’s massive textbook frontside 720, everyone—and we mean everyone—on the chairlift cheers. Time stands still.
