Yes, this zone is called Spinal Posturepedic. Much of the terrain is so complex, it’s hard to memorize. Moreover, much of it is so vertical that you can barely see what you’re coming up on once you’ve dropped in from the top. In this photo we see rider Gigi Rüf taking a preview of the majesty from across the valley as he stands atop the run known as Barry White.
Additional fun fact: Years ago, pro rider Tina Basich-Haller named this entire zone Buns of Steel, which encompasses not only Spinal Posturepedic, but also Barry White and all of the terrain in between. In the opinion of many who’ve ridden these steeps, this is regarded as the most prime spot in all of Haines, Alaska. Helicopter and foot-power accessible only. Destined to stay that way.
