Mt. Seymour sits conveniently just 15-kilometers from downtown Vancouver, BC. Though this ski area is certainly not as well known as some of the other resorts in the province, it has perhaps done more to shape the culture and progression of Canadian snowboarding than all other resorts combined—specifically because of its close proximity to this major urban center.

Kids from all over the city, suburbs, rural towns, and nearby island communities could get there—and they did. In droves. Among many others, athletes such as Roberta Rogers, Devun Walsh, Rob Sluggo Boyce, Kevin Sansalone, Dionne Delesalle, Max Jenke, Alex Toporowski, Paul Culling, Derek Scott, Jeff Keetley, Dave Cashen, Jeff Keenan, and Brennan Keenan each cut their teeth on the terrain at Mt. Seymour before moving on to bigger mountains.

If you ever find yourself in Vancouver, BC for an extended stay, lace up and go to Seymour. Not only is the sunset view incredible, so is the hidden history of this humble hill.
