In our estimation, this is the most important moment in snowboarding history. In 1996, Ingemar Backman-Trast showed the world how far snowboarding had come. On a quarterpipe shaped by hand against the uphill slope of a rundown train tunnel. During a snow jam on the outskirts of Riksgränsen, Sweden.

Ingemar casually dropped in unannounced. No fanfare. From peak height to perfect landing, he traveled 8.5 vertical meters, roughly the height of a three-story building. Prior to this, no rider had boosted this high out of a transition. No one.

Of the photographers in attendance that day, only a few got the shot. Photographer and Absinthe filmmaker Justin Hostynek published his documentary-style black & white photo as a two-page spread in Snowboarder Magazine. Where most other photographers positioned themselves on the deck, Hostynek pulled back to illustrate the entire scene.

Over the years, this iconic moment has received global mainstream media attention, more than five magazine covers, and endless odes to why it matters as much as it does. The answer is simple. Ingemar Backman-Trast made the impossible possible. As an artform, as a culture, and as a sport—he opened the door to so much more.

The Eternal Method is available as a comfort hoodie, cozy sweatshirt, stylish long-sleeve tee, and classic short-sleeve t-shirt.
